Fav Authors/Books

Peter O’Donnell ~ Modesty Blaise series. The original (and still the best) kick-arse heroine. They’re hard to get these days, but well worth the effort.

Dick Francis ~ everything he writes is brilliant.

Laurell K Hamilton ~ Anita Blake series (up until the 9th book. Haven’t read NIC or ID, and don’t think I will. I did read Cerulean Sins, but it wasn’t a keeper for me). I’ve read the first two in the Merry Gentry series, but I’m not sure if I’ll read the rest

P N Elrod ~ The Vampire Files series

Mecedes Lackey
~ Heralds of Valdemar series, Children of the Night

Stephen King ~ Christine, The Stand, Salem’s Lot and The Eye of the Dragon. Actually, I love all his earlier books, but haven’t read many of his latest.

Anne McCaffrey ~ Every one of her Pern Books

Tanya Huff
~ Blood Debt, Blood Pact, etc

Andre Norton ~Beast Master, Lord of Thunder, The Witch World series

David Eddings ~ Love the Belgariad series

James Herbert ~The Survivor, The Fog, The Jonah and if you’ve got a strong stomach, The Rats trilogy. Haven’t caught up with his latest books, except for the Ghosts of Wreath and Nobody True, which were macabre but great.

Tara K Harper ~ Wolfwalker Series

Kay Hooper ~ Love the Shadows series!

Alistair Maclean ~ an oldie, but a goodie if you like first person action

Raymond E Fiest
~ love the magician series

Lilith Saintcrow ~ loved the Danny Valentine novels.

Patricia Briggs ~ Read Moon Called & Blood Bound, and will be really pissed if the wrong wolf wins her hand in Iron Kissed

Tolkien ~ The Lord of the Rings. Read it half a dozen times at least.

Fav Movies

Die Hard 4–Okay, I love all the Die Hards (two was so-so) but this one rocked. Lots of impossible action, lots of humor (love the Mac guy) and Bruce Willis showing us he hasn’t gotten too old for it all yet. Brilliant stuff

Waitress–I went and saw this simply because captain Mel was in it, and it turned out to be a damn fine movie about relationships, finding strength, and pies (don’t go see it on an empty stomach).  Lots of humor, the occasional sad bit, and great acting by all involved.

Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightly version).–Okay, okay, so Colin Firth made a very good Mr.Darcy in the BBC’s TV mini series of P&P (some even call it the definitive version) but me, I found it horribly slow going in the first half (tho the bath scene with Colin wasn’t all that bad :D ). On the other hand, Kiera’s version was energy from the word go, and the scenery was to die for. And then there was Matthew MacFadyen, whom I adored in Spooks (a great British spy drama) and whom looks damn dashing as Mr Darcy. And some of the scenes between Mr. Darcy and Lizzy just sizzled. The dance scene where all the other dancers fade away is just brilliant. As is the scene where he first tells her he loves her–and comes so close to kissing her even after she’s rejected him. And the next to last scene, where he’s walking through the mist towards her–never knew a man walking could look so hot. Sigh. I’m not a huge fan of period dramas but I loved this. One thing tho–I’m glad the Aussie version stuck with the original ending, and didn’t tack on the ’special’ American ending. The movie was good enough as is. I didn’t need to see them kiss :)

The Notebook–An absolutely brilliant romance story that had me crying buckets. Lovely story, great acting, brilliant settings.

Finding Neverland–Beside the fact it had the brilliant Johnny Depp in it, this was just a great story. Who cares if it had absolutely nothing to do with reality. It’s a beautiful story.

The Bourne Series–loved, loved, loved them

Big Fish–This is a typical Tim Burton movie and, as usual, off centre and magical. If you haven’t seen it, do so. It’s weird, it’s brilliant, and it made me cry. (though that’s not saying much–if there’s even the slightest hint of sadness in a movie, I’m there with buckets of tears.)

Spiderman 2–I wasn’t a huge fan of the first movie, but this one is fantastic. For what it’s worth, I had tears in this one, too. See, I told you I’d cry at the drop of a hat :)

The Lord of the Rings–loved loved loved these, too. Get the extended version–lots more Aragorn action  :)

Pirates of the Caribbean–Johnny Depp….need I say more? Yes? How about Orlando Bloom? Still not convinced? Then how about this… the best all-round-fun movie I’ve seen in a long while

Matrix–great action sequences, amazing special effects, a pretty good plot and Keanu–what more could you want from a movie? (it’s just a shame the sequels pretty much sucked.)

Dogma–a very funny movie.

While You were Sleeping–another Sandra Bullock romantic comedy, and a movie I can watch time and again

The Terminator–all round excellent movie. Also loved Terminator Salvation, but thought Sam Worthington stole the movie (I’m not getting into all the inconsistencies of the 4th movie–I just enjoyed it for what it was)

Sleepy Hollow–Johnny Depp is fantastic in it (just love the way his character always manages to be behind someone when threatened!)

Evolution–Any movie that stars David Duchovny can’t be all that bad, and despite the somewhat lukewarm reviews it got, this was quite good

The Legend of Bagger Vance–any movie Robert Redford produces is going to be good, and this is no exception. Think Field of Dreams set on a golf course. Brilliant stuff.

Two Hands–a good Aussie movie that was Heath Ledger’s stepping stone to Hollywood. Great action and great plot–and lots of Aussie humour.

The Boondock Saints–Great pulp-fiction type action (only better) combined with a clever but sometimes weird plot. Very violent. It stars Sean Patrick Flannery (who’s well worth a second, third and fourth look) and features Billy Connolly in a great cameo.

Gladiator–what can I say about this movie that hasn’t already been said? It’s fantastic and Russell has never looked better.

Speed–Keanu, Sandra Bullock, a big bus and lots of action–what more could you want?

The Man in the Iron Mask–Gabriel Byrne as D’Artagnan. Sigh.

The X-Men movies–loved them all, even wolverine. But then, they have hugh in leather and tight jeans–what could be bad about that?

Best Men–a movie about robbing a bank on your wedding day. Sound a little weird? It is–but it’s good. Sean Patrick Flannery stars, only this time he’s with Dean Cain, who really steals the movie as a former Green Beret who was kicked out because he’s gay.

Someone Like You–A Hugh Jackman romantic comedy and a very nice movie

Miss Pettigrew lives for a day–a really lovely romantic comedy

27 Dresses–cute hero, fun movie

Shooter–Mark Wahlberg against the world (or at least the US government). Gotta love it.

Taken–Liam Neeson is amazing in this

Dr. Horrible’s sing-a-long blog–so wrong, and yet so right.

North and South–okay, this is a UK mini series rather than a movie, but I absolutely adore it. And it has the bonus of Richard Armitage in it

The Holiday–didn’t like Jude Law until I saw him in this. Now I know what the fuss is about.

PS I love you–watch it for Gerard Butler. He’s smashing (and very sexy) in it. Although Jeffrey Dean Morgan ain’t half bad, either
